Water: the basis of well-being
*
Every year, water related diseases kill three million people, most of them children. For many of the world’s poorest women and children, water collection is an exhausting daily burden that saps time and energy. And tragically, half of all people in developing countries have no access to clean, safe drinking water. Islamic Aid helps people build and maintain clean water systems – like wells, hand pumps, tube-wells. We help provide the training and resources and communities make their contribution in labour, and take responsibility for the operation and maintenance. The goal of these projects is to improve access to water and reduce the health risks of water-related diseases. When a family can access a ready supply of clean water there is more time and energy for work to increase both food and income, and more time for children to go to school. Water
